Wine Review: Planeta Frappato Sicilia Vittoria Doc 2015
When I went to Italy a couple of years ago, the one thing that stood out besides the amazing architecture and history, was the incredible wines. I stayed in Tuscany and drank mostly northern Italian wines but even the table wine there was amazing.
So when the folks from Planeta reached out and asked if I would be interested in reviewing their wine, I jumped at the opportunity. (If you know me, you know I love wine, especially red wines!)
The Planeta Frappato Sicilia Vittoria Doc 2015 is a light red table wine. It’s perfect for a hot summer day or even a crisp fall day when you want to sit outside your house to watch the trees start to turn. I would even recommend having this at your Thanksgiving dinner!
The Frappato, a light-bodied red grape, is widely grown on the southeastern coast of Sicily. The plum color is slightly opaque. It smells like a bouquet of berries. The taste, pleasant and highly enjoyable.
It has low tannins, low alcohol with 13% alcohol and is great with a variety of different foods or just having it any time. As I drink the Planeta, I am reminded that it tastes like pomegranate and red fruit.
Interestingly, it grows by the shore by the red sand of Sicily, which makes it have a unique taste unlike many of the other Italian wines on the market. It’s best served chilled at 60 degrees.
You can pick it up at a wine shop for under $20.
