I hope that I won’t have to retire for a long time, but I do know that instead of playing cards or Mah Jong, I hope to be able to keep running with amazing people. What will you do when you retire?
Back in 2016 when I ran my first marathon, Jeff Galloway, Olympian, and inventor of the run/walk/run program coached me. He taught me about the program and taught me what it took to run 26.2 miles in New York City.
After that, I asked Jeff if I could give back by starting a program on Long Island.
Today, we have 35 members. We meet every Saturday at different parks around Long Island. Some of the places we’ve run include Fire Island, Massapequa Preserve, Setauket trail, and the Long Beach Boardwalk.
I look forward to joining this group every Saturday morning. It’s one of the highlights of my week. The group consists of men and women ages 30 through 75. We even have a 12-year-old boy in the group!
Just coming back from visiting my dad at Pacifica House at Forest Trace, I realize that I’m lucky to have this group and I hope that these amazing runners will continue with me throughout the years!
