Have you ever thought about staying at the Waldorf Astoria in Manhattan before? If you have, you now can. Before, this deluxe hotel was untouchable by the middle class American, but since it became a Hilton and then eventually was bought out by a Chinese investment group that renovated the entire hotel, it is now affordable. Today, you can stay at the Waldorf for under $300 a night (on a weekend) and up.
The hotel was founded in 1931 and since then, many dignitaries and including our Presidents stayed here throughout their New York City visit. The Anbang Insurance Group bought the Waldorf for $1.95 billion in 2014.
It was the tallest building in the world since 1963. It has 1400+ guest rooms. The towers on the 28th floor and up are where the suites are located and the Presidential suite is decorated in Georgian style to match the White House.
My husband and I decided to stay at the Waldorf Astoria to check it out. The grand entrance is extraordinary. The rooms, which I wasn’t sure how they would be, were rather large for a NYC hotel. The bathrooms were also large and the shower was superb! (I love it when there is a steady force of water from the shower head!) I thought the decor, which was French Imperial style, was quite lovely.
The bed was particularly comfortable and the bedding had fine cotton sheets to make it even extra comfy!
There are so many hotels in New York, but to get into a cab and say, “take me to the Waldorf Astoria,” is just something special that you don’t always get an opportunity to say that!
Would I recommend it? I sure would. It’s a great hotel even if you get to don’t stay and check out the lobby. It’s worth checking out!
