Lots of companies canceled their holiday party, but at HJMT I thought it was important to reward the staff with a special treat. We held our holiday party at the Oheka Castle in West Hills, NY.
The Oheka Castle was built almost a century ago by Otto Hermann Kahn, owner of Kahn Hot Dogs. He built the castle on 443 acres of land, which also has an adjoining golf course. The castle has 127 rooms and is absolutely magnificent.
We’ve hosted parties at the Oheka Castle but we never really enjoyed them because we worked the events. So, I thought it would be nice to rent a room for the evening, serve the staff a wonderful dinner, starting with Hors Deourvres consisting of coconut shrimp, lamb chops, lobster and caviar and the works. We were also served a salad, Filet mignon and a trio of dessert — cheesecake, chocolate mouse cake and a raspberry tart.
In addition, the meal was served in Kahn’s original library, which was filled with old books and in the center of the room, a large painting of him was on the wall. It was truly lovely. Everyone really had a nice time.
To touch it off, I hired Mike Munzer to play his guitar and sing. He is an amazingly talented musician (and a great sales trainer too!). We were all really glad that he could be with us for the evening playing the Beatles, America, Neil Young, Plain White T’s and more!
