Thanks to my good friend, Henry Powderly of Long Island Business News, yesterday, I had a speaking gig at the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council, Inc. The speech focused on social media and how hospitals can use social media to build their brand.
As I always do when I give presentations, I present various case studies, like Skittles, Pizza Hut and LandRover.
Since I was speaking before a hospital group, I researched Hospital case studies. I was very impressed with St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital Facebook page. They certainly know how to use the page to build their brand. On the wall, they let everyone in their community write whatever they want. The info page gives a description of the hospital and its services. They show photos of the children they have helped and the community is allowed to post photos as well. In addition, they have videos up on their Facebook page and they link their Facebook page with their Twitter page. They have more than 70,000 followers.
I also found a few hospital blogs written by CEOs. How powerful is it to have the CEO of a major hospital write a blog that others can relate to? People reading the blog feel a connection. They feel like they know the CEO and it makes it easier to go to that hospital.
Social media is about building a community and developing relationships within the community.
