The other day I went to see my son’s baseball practice at the Middle School. We live on an Island and for some reason, this Middle School is extremely windy. It’s like that all the time.
When I went to watch his practice, I was wearing a heavy leather jacket and brought a blanket from the car. As soon as I got there, I found myself wrapping the blanket around my head and shoulders. I was freezing!
One of the fathers of the players walked toward me. We started to talk. He told me he was in Real Estate and I told him I had a PR firm. I was shivering as I spoke with him.
“Let me give you my jacket,” he said.
“I can’t take that from you, it’s so cold out,” I said.
“No, no, you take it,” he said, “I have another one in the car.” And with that, he pulled off the jacket and put it around my shoulders.
What a difference it made! I was still cold, but not shivering. I was shocked that this stranger who I never met, took off his jacket for me. It was one of the nicest gestures from a stranger, I have had in a long time.
It makes me smile to know that there are some really nice people out there…
