SolarCity Chosen to Help New York Schools Save Money through State’s K-Solar Program
School districts offered opportunity to save on energy costs with renewable power through pre-vetted program
SolarCity® (NASDAQ: SCTY), America’s #1 solar power provider, has been awarded the New York City, Westchester and Hudson Valley regions under the New York K-Solar program. The regions encompass more than 200 public school districts and additional nonprofit schools throughout the state. K-Solar is a joint project of the New York Power Authority (NYPA) and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to provide New York State (NYS) school districts with the tools and expertise to bring solar energy to their facilities that can help reduce their energy costs without the need for capital funds.
The potential budget savings for school districts that go solar is significant. The National Solar Schools Census found approximately 450 individual school districts across the nation that could each save more than $1 million over the next 30 years by installing solar power systems onsite.
K-Solar simplifies the process for a school district to go solar through standardized pricing and pre-vetted agreements from SolarCity and provided with third-party corroboration by the NYPA K-Solar team & NYSERDA. The school districts in the New York City, Westchester and Hudson Valley regions that SolarCity will serve comprise thousands of individual schools and well over a million enrolled students. These schools can now begin discussions about opportunities for reducing their energy costs through affordable solar energy.
SolarCity has New York operations centers in Amsterdam, Bethpage, Colonie, Elmsford, New Windsor and Hauppauge. In 2017, the company expects to complete the largest solar panel manufacturing facility in the Western Hemisphere in Buffalo, NY.
