The last six weeks have been rough. I’ve been slowly recovering from brain surgery from a small aneurysm that was inside my head. A stent was put in to divert the blood flow, and within six months, I should find out if it was a success.
Anyway, my husband and I decided that we were going to go to our first all-inclusive resort, Sandals, in Antigua. We had been in Antigua nearly 36 years ago when my husband proposed to me on the plane to Antigua. At that time, we stayed at a small resort called Hawksbill.
We had heard about Sandals but weren’t sure if it was for us. Wild nightly parties… I don’t think so. So much food and drink daily… no, not really.
We thought about skiing, but five weeks after the surgery, we thought it would be best to go to an island and “veg out.”
This is the first time I’ve been to a Sandals Resort.
So, we packed our bags, ready for a much-needed break.
Upon arrival, the first thing that struck us was the sheer beauty of the resort. The lush tropical greenery, the stunning architecture, and the inviting turquoise waters created a picture-perfect setting that was nothing short of paradise.
Our room was a luxurious sanctuary complete with a two-person bathtub and a small balcony offering breathtaking views of the resort. It was the perfect spot to relax and enjoy some quiet moments together.
The food
The dining options at the resort were varied, with seven different restaurants offering a range of cuisines. While the food was not gourmet quality, it was edible and provided an opportunity to try different dishes each day.
One aspect of the resort that was slightly disappointing was the lack of nightlife. However, they did make an effort for special occasions, such as the Super Bowl, where they set up a big screen for guests to watch the game. On another night, they had a steel drum band playing 80s music which added a fun vibe to the evening.
The Beach
The real highlight of the resort, however, was the beach. With its beautiful turquoise waters and pristine sand, it was absolutely gorgeous. Each day, I found myself drawn to the water, swimming and enjoying the serenity it offered.
To balance out the relaxation, the resort also had an incredible gym and a large pool, along with smaller ones scattered throughout the resort, complete with hot tubs. These amenities added a welcome variety to our daily routine.
The Drinks
The drinks were certainly watered down and Sandals used poor quality wine and liquor. However, if you wanted to pay extra, you could get a good bottle of wine with dinner. Since we thought it was expensive as it was, we opted to just have what was included in our package.
My final thoughts
Despite the minor shortcomings, our stay at Sandals Antigua was a wonderful experience. It gave us the chance to unwind, enjoy each other’s company, and most importantly, recover in a beautiful environment.
While it might not have been the wild party scene some might expect, it was exactly what we needed – a peaceful retreat filled with relaxation and rejuvenation.
Therefore, if you’re considering a trip to Sandals Antigua, remember that it’s not just about the partying and the food. It’s about the stunning scenery, the incredible facilities and the opportunity to create unforgettable memories.
