Restaurant Review: Lost & Found in Long Beach, NY
Lost & Found was featured in The New York Times and since then, my husband has been talking with me about going to try it out. Lost & Found is located in the West End of Long Beach, NY.
The restaurant has little or no signage and it’s hard to miss. When we went there on a Friday night, it was packed. Every table was taken, including the table around the kitchen, except for the high table for two with two high chairs around it.
We ordered a bottle of Cabernet from Napa and proceeded to try to decipher the menu. The waitress informed us that the place serves small plates to be shared. “Order around four small plates and you should be good.”
We ordered five.
We started with a caesar salad that had so much cheese on it, I could barely see the red leaf lettuce. I was skeptical but after having a taste, I was a believer. “Wow,” I thought, “it tastes great.”
The baby carrots were next. It was served in a sweet sauce and had a delightful taste and flavor.
After that, we received the halibut baked with pecans and pecan oil. It was truly delicious.
I was a little disappointed in the last tappas plate of Bison and a dish of potatoes and cheese. The Bison was tough and chewy and the potatoes, although deep fried, were just a bit dried out.
As for the ambiance, it reminded my husband and I of a restaurant we would see in Brooklyn. It was chic and fun. They also played awesome music from David Bowie to the Ramones.
“You need to see the bathroom,” Brian said to me.
I went in and was a tinge scared by the flashing lights and seeing Jesus illuminated in different colors. He was being sold for $1500. I felt as if I was in a creepy disco. You could barely see the toilet!
Dessert was a little disappointing with an apple pie that was totally flattened. It was somewhat bland and not that tasty. The other desserts looked great.
Would I recommend? I would say so. The ambiance, music and company were great. The food was overall good and it was a fun place for an evening out.
