Recently, I received a big package. In it, I found two boxes of Kellogg’s Fiber Plus Antioxidants cereal: Berry Yogurt Crunch and Cinnamon Oat Crunch.
The Berry Yogurt Crunch box is designed to look like a picnic tablecloth in red and pink checkers. The Cinnamon Oat Crunch also looked like a picnic tablecloth but the colors are brown with tan checkers. I didn’t love the design. I didn’t think it was appealing. I thought it looked old fashioned and would have liked to have seen active middle-aged people on the cover.
In addition to the design, Kellogg’s compares the cereals to other brands. For example, Cinnamon Oat Crunch was compared to Honey Nut Cheerios and Berry Yogurt Crunch was compared to Fiber One Honey Clusters.
When smelling the Cinnamon Oat Crunch, it had a strong cinnamon scent. And when tasting it dry, it tasted like cinnamon. I liked the flavor. I thought it would make a great mid-day snack and good breakfast cereal.
The Berry Yogurt Crunch had a strong strawberry scent. It tasted sweet and was excellent dry. This would make a good snack during the day as well.
When I put milk into the bowl and tasted each of them, they were much better! The Berry Yogurt was delicious. However, there weren’t enough blueberries and strawberries in it. The yogurt pieces were sweet and scrumptious. When you see the photo of the cereal on the front of the box, it shows you big pieces of fruit and yogurt, which is highly exaggerated. I would have liked it to have had bigger pieces.
The Cinnamon Oat Crunch was also better with milk. The cinnamon was less prevalent but I certainly wouldn’t compare this cereal to Honey Nut Cheerios. They have very different flavors.
The calories are both relatively low. The Berry Yogurt Crunch has 170 calories for 1 cup without milk and 210 with fat free milk. The Cinnamon Oat Crunch has 110 calories for ¾ cup, and with fat free milk it has 150 calories.
After looking at the calories and the serving portions on both cereals, I went into my cereal cabinet and looked at other brands. The serving sizes ranged from ½ cup to 1 full cup. Why don’t all cereal companies standardize the serving size?
On a separate note, lately, almost every brand of every item is different and hard to compare. For example, have you noticed the rolls of paper towels lately? What is it with the 6 towels = 8 towels? I really don’t understand that because I am buying 6 paper towels, not 8!
Berry Yogurt Crunch has 43 grams of carbohydrates and 12 grams of sugar. Cinnamon Oat Crunch has 26 grams of carbohydrates and 7 grams of sugar. I thought this was pretty good. I liked that Kellogg’s came out with healthier cereals because that’s the trend. We all want to eat healthy, stay active and live longer than the generation before us.
They were both worth trying and I enjoyed both. I’m not sure if I liked one better than the other, but could certainly see myself buying both and switching off every few days. I would recommend purchasing either one or both at your local supermarket.
