Monday was one of those perfect days! The weather was in the low 70’s, the sky was blue and there were few clouds in the sky. A cool breeze filled the air and there was little humidity.
I started my day getting my daughter ready for work and my son ready for school. After everyone was out of the house, I packed my car and headed over to New York Sports Club in Long Beach. I was training with Paul, the head trainer. (I’m training with him for the next few weeks until my usual trainer, Dom, comes back from his internship.)
As I walked in, Paul greeted me. “Hey, meet me upstairs at 8:30 am,” he said. I ran 3/4 mile on the treadmill and ran up the stairs to meet him. After an hour of an intense workout, I showered put on my golf clothes and headed over to Riverhead to meet with two of my clients to play a round of golf.
When I finally arrived around 11:30ish, Bill saw me and flagged me down. The caddy took my clubs, I parked the car and put on my golf shoes and ready to go. We were playing in an outing honoring one of the members of the Long Island Forum for Technology (LIFT) board.
There were a lot of Board members there supporting Walter A. Poggi, the honoree of the St. Joseph’s RC School and Parish 11th Annual Golf Outing. The outing was at the Long Island National Golf Club in Riverhead.
I was actually there a few years back when I took my entire staff there for a golf outing. It was the first (and maybe only) time I hit a “birdie.” In any event, I was excited to play there again because it truly is a beautiful course.
We had an amazing day. The game was played as a “best ball/scramble,” meaning that we all tee’d off and played the best ball throughout the hole. Interestingly, every time two of us had bad shots, the third person always came to the rescue! We came in 5 over par, not a great score but we had a lot of fun getting there.
On one of the holes, Bill got closest to the pin. Since he signed up for the Jet Blue challenge, he and three other guys were called out to the course after the outing ended. They were asked to shoot again. If any of them got in the hole (a hole in one), they would have won $50,000! (I could think of a few things to do with $50,000!)
Bill went first. He was playing great all day and was hot. The other guys followed. Only one of the guys got the ball on the green. (Unfortunately, it wasn’t Bill.)
As I was driving back from Riverhead, I just couldn’t help but smile. It was one of those perfect days…
Bill says……I could not agree more with Hilary – the day was perfect! The absolute best and most wonderful thing was playing golf with Hilary. She is quite good and someone you want to spend the day with. Next time, the $50,000 will be won and enjoyed by all…..Bill
