If you live and work in the Suburbs, then you know that the main meeting place for any business meeting is a diner. It’s just how it is…
Today, I was meeting one of my friends from the Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO NY), Damon Gersh of Maxons Restorations.
His secretary emailed me and asked if we could meet at the Broadway Diner in Hicksville. I wrote back, sure. I put the date in my calendar and that was that…
Yesterday, I got an email from Anna, his secretary. “This is to confirm your appointment with Damon Gersh at 12 noon at the Harvest Diner.” I wrote back confirmed and never changed the location in my iphone. I didn’t even notice that the location was changed!
At 11:30 am, I left my Westbury office to get to the diner. I wasn’t quite sure where it was and wanted to leave ample time to get there. When I walked into the Broadway Diner, I was the only one there. I was seated at a big table, with two big menus placed next to me and two big glasses of water. “Would you like something to drink?” the waiter asked.
“Sure, I’ll have coffee…” I said.
Fifteen minutes went by. It was 12 noon. He should be here soon, I thought. I looked at my emails. I looked at my Facebook page. I logged in my location with Foursquare. Now it was 12:15. I decided to call Anna.
“Oh, I’ll get back to you,” she said.
All of a sudden, my phone rang. It was Kristie Galvani, my Senior VP. “Where are you?” she asked.
“I’m at the diner,” I said. “I don’t know where Damon is…”
“He’s right there,” she said. “He called and said he’s sitting in the room to the right.”
I got up from my seat and started to look for him. I didn’t see him any where! The phone rang again. This time it was Anna.
“Are you at the Harvest Diner?” she asked.
“No, I’m at the Broadway Diner…” I said.
“I wrote you yesterday and told you the Harvest Diner is the meeting spot,” she said.
“You’ve got to be kidding!” I said. “Okay, I’ll be there in 15 minutes…”
I picked my stuff up, paid for my coffee and hurried to the Harvest Diner. When I got there, Damon was there waiting patiently for me. We looked at each other and laughed. “That’s crazy, huh?” I said…
I guess when you have meetings at diners one diner looks just like the others…
