The other day, I received an email from a stranger. I get a lot of emails from people I don’t know asking me questions about social media because I wrote the book, “Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Social Media but were afraid to ask… Building business using consumer generated media.”
But this day was different. I got a request from a man who had a son with a disability. Apparently, the son had seen my book somewhere and asked his dad for a copy. His dad sent me an email asking if I could send them a signed copy of the book.
I did. Ellen Heydt, from my office, sent it out for me and it was gone.
“Why did you do that?” Kristie Galvani, senior VP, asked me.
“I don’t know,” I said. “The kid wanted the book so I sent it to him…”
I didn’t think twice about it until today when I received the following note:
Thanks so very much for sending my son a GREAT BOOK today. He was thrilled. To do this for a stranger, let alone a disabled kid…speaks volumes to what great people you are. Its so appreciated. My son says: LOVE, DUSTIN. Thanks again for your kindness…
I opened the email and I smiled. This was a great way to end a lousy week!
