According to Time Magazine’s October 10th issue, during the 2001 recession, Lipstick sales took off when everything else declined. Although Lipstick sales are up 14% today, nail polish sales soared to 54%.
Nail enamel is one of those luxury items that doesn’t break the bank and makes you feel good.
Nail polish comes in a variety of colors. I remember when there were only two colors — red or pale pink. Thankfully, today polish comes in a variety of colors from green to yellow and everything in between.
OPI is on the cutting edge with new colors and new themes. They recently launched a 12 limited edition collection , called “The Muppets.” These colors are specifically for the 2011 holidays and were inspired by Disney’s “The Muppets,” which is currently in theatres all across the country.
“Not only do The Muppets characters inspire fun, bright and joyful colors, the fashionable Miss Piggy lends her name to three high-shine pink-based hues, ranging from bold red flecked with silver to a multi-dimensional strawberry shade,” said Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP and Artistic Director.
I sampled two of the 12 colors – Rainbow Collection, which has as the name indicates every color of the rainbow in the polish. The other color, Pepe’s Purple Passion, has a glittery purplish maroon color. Both are three dimensional because of the glitter in the polish.
I also sampled six colors from their newest collection Nicole by OPI featuring Kardashian color. These 14 new lacquers were inspired by the Kardashian family.
Weiss-Fischmann said, “with lacquers ranging from high-shine and sparkly hues to neutral taupe and pinkish coral, Kardashian Kolor offers the perfect accessory for every woman – from teens to moms and everyone in between.”
The nail polish I received was It’s All About Glam (white shimmering color), Hard-Kourt Fashionista (deep brown hue), Kim-Pletely in Love (shimmering pale pink), Listen to Your Momager (sparkling blue), Sealed with a Kris (Red polish) and Khloe had a Little Lam-Lam (emerald turquoise color).
I simply love OPI. I love that they are so creative and are inspired by so many things that are popular today. When I go to a nail salon, I find that there are only two brands. I always use OPI and then I end up buying the color from the salon. I find that it lasts longer and I enjoy the colors more than the other brand.
“The Muppets” are now available at most salons. To purchase any of the colors, go to OPI.com, which is the only legal online retailer. Kardashian Kolors can be purchased at Walmart.
I enjoyed the Kardashian Kolors so much that I plan to go to Walmart and buy the rest of the colors!
If the Time Magazine article is right that nail polish is the new “Lipstick effect,” because of the economy, then I’ll go with OPI colors every time.
I LOVE the names OPI comes up with for their nail polish colors. So fun!
I know. I think that OPI is so creative. They really come up with some fun color names…
Interesting how OPI leveraged the market demand and the anticipated success behind “The Muppets” to develop their own marketing. Great strategy!
I have not gotten my nails done since the summer time… I feel like it’s a luxury and not a necessity. However, OPI has the cutest/fun ideas for marketing colors!
I agree OPI is the best quality polish. But I always steer towards natural colors, so it’s kind of limited for me. Dark polish shortens the look of the fingers and on stage, you must wear natural or clear to give the illusion of longer fingers and not to interfere with time period for costumes. But my favorite polish is indeed the ones I buy from the salon, which are always OPI.
Thanks for your comment Sharon. I used to love light colors and now I wear crazy colors like blue, green and even yellow… It’s just fun…
