“Hey, you’re my facebook friend,” Steve said to me.
“What are you doing here?” I said. “Don’t we know each other from business?”
“Yeah, we’ve actually known each other for a long time through the Long Island Capital Alliance and some other groups,” he said.
“I had no idea you grew up in Long Beach,” I said. “What a funny coincidence!”
And that’s how the 2009, unofficial Long Beach High School reunion started for me. Held at Minnesota’s in the West End of Long Beach, the unofficial HS reunion had a few hundred people spanning 10 years. (My brother, Ed who lives in Florida and my sister, Lori who lives in Plainview would have known a lot of people if they were there.) The organizers arranged the whole thing through Facebook.
It was so nice to see some people I haven’t seen in more than 20 years. Unfortunately, there were no name badges or buttons to say who people were, so I was going up to people introducing myself to them. One guy I introduced myself to was Jimmy.
“Hilary, you were my first kiss,” Jimmy said to me.
“OMG, really,” I said and then started to reflect back to his father’s company’s picnic at Rye Playland.
Funny thing is, since I still live in the same town, I saw a lot of local friends there too. It was really a good time.
