My husband and I were just in New York City at Socarrat Paella Bar on 19th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues. When we walked in, we both looked at each other. The place was so tiny and had one long table that stretched from the front of the restaurant to the back.
“Table for two,” my husband said.
“One of you should go around on the other side,” the waiter said. I sat on one side of the table and my husband the other side. There was a Hispanic couple on my right and on my left sat two bald guys with their significant others. I couldn’t help but look at the people sitting next to us on both sides.
When the four people to my right got their paella‘s my mouth started to water. It smelt and looked delicious. I was so excited to get our paella. (We were both starving after a full day of golf in NJ.)
We ordered a shrimp ajella appetizer, which was incredible. Every bite, I made last as long as possible. It was that good. For our main course, we ordered the Socarrat Paella, which consisted of meat, chicken, shell fish and fish all mixed in a brown rice mixture. It was fabulous. It wasn’t what we expected or even anticipated having been to a ton of other Spanish restaurants in the past. But it was so different and so good, we finished the whole thing!
The couple on my left order a creme brulee. It looked and smelled great too but when the waiter came around to place our dessert order, we both said we had enough.
So, if you like Paella and want to try something different, definitely check out Socarrat Paella Bar in NYC. They don’t take reservations but it’s worth the wait!
