Do you know what gets me angry? It gets me angry when I work through lunch, order something from the local deli, Brendal’s on Old Country Road in Westbury, to find that the order is all wrong! Here’s what I ordered and what I got:
- Ham and cheese omelet and got a ham omelet
- Small coffee and got a large coffee
- Toasted bagel with butter and got plain toast and a plain bagel
Okay, people make mistakes. I called up Brendal’s and Vincent told me that I would get credit for the order. That was nice, I thought.
Today, I decided to place an order with Brendal’s. “Don’t forget about your credit,” Kristie Galvani, Senior VP, said to me as I was dialing the number. “That’s right,” I said. “Thanks. I almost forgot.”
I placed the order and told them about the credit. When the delivering man came a 1/2 hour later, he told me I owed him $4.33. I gave him $5 and change for the tip. Then I started to think about it. Was a 1/4 pound of tuna and a small side salad almost $5 more than a ham and egg omelet?
When I figured it out, it ended up that Brendal’s owed me $2. I called the manager.
“So, you’re saying that I owe you $2 and .40 cents?” he said.
“Yes.”
“And you want what from me for a lousy $2 bucks?” he said.
He got condescending and I thought, this is absolutely ridiculous. Doesn’t customer service mean anything anymore? Isn’t the customer always right?
