It’s all about the butter… (not the bass, the butter!)
The other evening, I went out to dinner with my daughter, Zoey and her boyfriend, Dan. We went to a small Italian restaurant in SoHo. As we were sitting there, the waiter brought us over bread without butter or olive oil. My daughter asked for butter. Moments later, two triangles of butter appeared in a little dish and was placed on the table.
My daughter and I reached for the butter with our knives, picked up a heaping portion and spread it on the bread that was given to us.
“Wow, that butter is good,” said my daughter.
“You know, this is probably the best butter I had in a long time,” I said.
I then asked the waiter what kind of butter it was. “Is this butter homemade or do you buy it?” I asked.
He laughed and shook his head. “No they don’t make it here. They buy it,” he said.
I asked if he could go in the back and find out more about it. When he came back, he told us it was a European brand of butter.
“They just don’t make it that good here,” I said. “It’s really all about the butter!”
P.S. The restaurant was pretty good too but the butter was worth the mention!
Many European butters are cultured (similar to creme fraiche). Perhaps that is what you found.
