When I heard this morning that the US Government caught Osama bin Laden, I didn’t believe it. Why did it take this long to find him? September 11th happened almost 10 years ago!
Since September 11, 2001, our country has been in mourning for all of the people who died that day and for those who died after as a result of the destruction.
Every time I drive into the city, I feel something missing. The people who worked in the Twin Towers, the actual towers themselves, sitting outside having lunch by the towers and even going up to the top of the towers to see the most magnificent view of our amazing city.
My children will never have that experience and neither will their children.
It’s gone. Things will never be the same.
Our country has been on high alert for the last 10 years. We can no longer travel without someone either patting us down or putting us through a scanner and checking all our belongings. There are police officers at every major bridge and tunnel in New York City pulling people over who look suspicious and it’s gotten to the point that there is no longer any privacy.
But what bothers me most is all the people who perished that day. They were fathers, mothers, daughters, sons who never did anything wrong except be in the Twin Towers on that day. It saddens me to think about how angry their families still are with the incident and even though bin Laden is dead, I wonder if they will feel a sense of relief?
Unfortunately, there may be more to follow in Bin Laden’s footsteps but we can’t let that scare us. We have to stand together tall and have belief that our country will be there to protect us.
The reason why it took so long is because he went “underground” immediately following 9/11, making it exceptionally difficult to track him. He didn’t use phones, cell phones, internet, etc. Aside from occasional statements here and there, he left no communication footprints to be tracked.
In addition, what’s being investigated is that he was in Pakistan, a country that hates the United States, but on the other hand… Vowed to help them find him. Did they know all along? Was their intelligence poor? Did they not assist has much as they had promised? I guess that’s what will be figured out in the next steps…
