Hilary’s List of Top 10 Things to Do on Long Island…

Since I’ve lived on Long Island my entire life (well most of it), a lot of people ask me for top things to do on Long Island, so I developed this list.  If you have any other tops for Long Island, please include in the comment section. (P.S. there’s no particular order here…)

    1. Go to Tanger Outlets in Riverhead – I don’t know about you, but I love it there. You can spend the entire day shopping and get some great bargains.
    2. Spend the day at the Wineries – I love the northfork of Long Island. It’s so beautiful there and touring the wineries is a lot of fun. But bring a designated driver with you… The wine will go right to your head!
    3. Check out the Hamptons – I don’t go there often but when I do I find it to be a lot of fun with chic shops and interesting restaurants.  And don’t forget the gorgeous beach!
    4. Visit Long Beach – That’s where I live and I love it here. The beach is magnificent and before the hurricane, there was a boardwalk that spanned 2.1 miles in each direction. Hopefully the boardwalk will be rebuilt before the summer and when you come for a visit, be sure to check it out.
    5. Go to White Post Farms in Melville – Sometimes I still think I’m a kid but I absolutely love this place.  You can feed the baby animals, pick pumpkins in the fall and even get some delicious fresh fruits and vegetables.
    6. Play Golf – There are so many challenging public golf courses on Long Island including: Bethpage, the National, Tall Grass and Eisenhower Park.
    7. See a Concert at the Paramount – Huntington is a cool town with lots of funky shops and things to see.  The Paramount in Huntington is a great place to see concerts. It’s an upscale version of Terminal 5 in the city.
    8. Visit Jones Beach – Whether you want to play mini golf, walk on the boardwalk, lie in the sand or see a concert there, Jones Beach State Park has a lot to offer.
    9. Walk around Port Washington – This north shore community is also a cool place to spend the day. You can even walk over to the Marina and watch the boats.
    10. Spend the day at Spa Castle – okay, okay, I know this is in Queens but Queens is still part of Long Island isn’t it? Spa Castle is a day spa where you can spend the entire day in thermal pools or relaxing in various saunas ranging from a jade sauna to an ice sauna. They have massages, facials and scrubs and anything else you can think of and it’s sure to be a day of just pure bliss.
