Heard of Twitter? Yes, it’s that social networking site that is all the rage right now. It helps business gain a better online presence and connects you to people all over the world. Well, Twitter decided to help organize a global charity event and Rochester, NY didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity to get involved and be part of the more than 195 cities around the world joining together to bring safe and clean drinking water to more than 1 billion people who desperately need it.

Twestival was a combination of Twitter and Festival. It was a global charity event on February 12th, 2009 that was held around the world to raise money for charity:water. Twitter got involved by wanting to be a part of creating an event that would incorporate the social media market, as well as raise money for a well deserving cause. charity:water is a non for profit organization that concentrates on building wells in developing nations that do not have access to clean drinking water. Scott Harrison, the founder of charity:water has made it his mission to provide as many people as he can with something that many of us take for granted on a daily basis; clean and safe water. This past month, HJMT had the opportunity to help out with this global event.

The local Rochester Twestival was on February 12th at the German House starting at 5pm in Rochester, NY. It was a way for us to help put Rochester on the global map and HJMT didn’t think twice about getting involved! We were one of the smallest cities participating, but with HJMT’s helped we managed to raise more than $2,700 for the cause.

How we helped: Since the launch of our office at the end of summer last year we have met with countless businesses and organizations introducing ourselves and HJMT to them. That being said, HJMT decided to reach out to those Rochester businesses to see if they would donate raffles prizes to the event. With just two weeks to plan the Twestival, I contacted all of the people that we had been in contact and surprisingly, or maybe not because Rochester is such a tight knit community, most companies came through!

A special thanks to Garth Fagan Dance, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Geva Theatre, Rochester City Ballet, Brueggers Bagels, George Eastman House, Premier Pastry, Paychex, Waddell & Reed and Hunt Country Vineyards, for helping us out and helping make Rochester Twestival a great success.

To top it off, at the event, I was interviewed an article in the Democrat and Chronicle. HJMT was happy to lend a hand in making Rochester Twestival a success and thanks the businesses and organizations that remembered our name and contributed to the cause! We’re really enjoying our upstate office and can’t wait to continue to help put Rochester businesses, organizations and products on the map!
