Snapchat, an app available on iTunes for a free download, is the hottest new app among teens and 20somethingers. Once you download the application, a little friendly ghost will be the icon on your screen. When you click on the link, it takes you to a camera, similar to Instagram. You can take your photo and send to anyone who has Snapchat installed on their smart phone.
The photo is taken and the recepient is selected. Within a matter of seconds the photo disappears. (The user gets to set how many seconds the recipient can see the photo.) According to a recent CNN article, more than 30 million photos have been taken through this app.
This app has become controversial. There has been a widespread number of teens and 20+ year olds sending inappropriate images (sexting) to other users. Therefore, many ask, what happens if these photos are retrieved one day?
However, if you use this tool the right way, it could be a marketing bonanza.
Think about it, if you have a retail store, product or service, you can use Snapchat and send quick photos to your targeted community. That instant message, reminds them about the product or service. You can also use this for a contest to build awareness for your product or service. The ideas are endless. I can certainly see using this in upcoming marketing campaigns.
Have you used it? If so, what do you use it for?
