Are networks and cable companies just finding it harder and harder to come up with themes for new shows? I don’t know about you, but I recently saw the first episode of the new HBO show, “Hung,” and I just shook my head. I shook it so hard that I even just sat through the second episode!
The show is about a basketball coach who is recently divorced. His two goth kids lived with him until he had a fire in his house and lost everything, including the kids to his ex-wife. Now he’s got these huge bills and needs a way to pay off his debt. He decides to attend a class on entrepreneurship. The teacher asked the class what their passion is, what they love to do.
“What about you Ray, have you considered your winning tool?” the teacher asked the protaganist.
“Yes, I think I know what it is, the hard part is how to market it,” said Ray as he thought about his big (do I have to say the word in this blog?)
The woman he meets in his class, who happened to be someone he slept with years before, becomes his “pimp.” She tries to teach him how to work with women. The whole premise behind this show is outrageous. The script uses dark humor to show how a man tries to survive setbacks that have been compounded by a troubled economy.
It’s funny in an off beat kind of way. Will I watch the next episode? I’m not sure, but I am curious what you think…
BTW, Hung has a Facebook page, a community and even a contest to help “pimp Ray!” HBO, kudos on your social media efforts!
