“I would much prefer a gift to cash,” said Ryan S. of Colorado who recently married my cousin, Erin.
“Why is that?” I said. “Wouldn’t you rather have the money so that you start with a solid bank account?”
“No,” he answered. “I just love opening gifts….”
My cousins were married less than a month ago and at their Colorado wedding they received half gifts and half money. When my husband and I were invited to a recent wedding in New Jersey, we surveyed people in their 20’s and 30’s to find out what they would prefer. Most said money but there were still plenty who said gifts.
