Who doesn’t love Dr. Seuss? When you hear his name, it reminds you of Green Eggs & Ham and the Cat in the Hat.
Now children of all ages can see all of his work, including never before seen pieces, starting on Thursday, February 12 from 5 pm – 8 pm through the month of February at Pop International Galleries MIDTOWN in “The Atrium” of the Citicorp Building at 153 East 53rd Street in Manhattan.
This will be a great event to attend either tonight or during President’s week when the kids are off from school.
“The Cat Behind The Hat” Art Exhibition, which will include a desired collection of rare works made available for the first time in New York City. The show will run through February 27, 2015.
This legendary collection of artworks will offer an inside view into Dr. Seuss’ artistic legacy, focusing on an extraordinary collection from his nearly 70-year artistic career featuring numerous sold out, rare and highly sought pieces and “Collector’s Proofs,” including the “Secret Art Of Dr. Seuss” and his prized “Unorthodox Taxidermy.”

For more than 70 years, Theodor Seuss Geisel’s illustrations have brought a visual realization to imaginary worlds, often presenting serious subject matter in a lighthearted and educational manner. However, his artistic talent went far beyond the printed page and the ubiquity of children’s books. Theodor Geisel’s paintings and sculptures created for his own personal enjoyment, were rarely, if ever, exhibited during his lifetime. Secretly, he wanted to be recognized as a serious artist, influenced by Surrealism, Cubism and Abstract Expressionism, often describing his own works as “midnight paintings.” While much of the exhibition at POP International Galleries MIDTOWN will present his “midnight art,” it will also feature his “Illustration Art” from his most known and beloved children’s books.
“As an iconic part of popular culture, Dr. Seuss has been an inspirational driving force throughout the world with his imaginative and whimsical works for generations,” said Mr. Jaffe. “As the preeminent POP gallery in the US, being able to display and offer these rare works to children of all ages is what we are all about.”
Seuss always dreamed of sharing these works with his fans and entrusted his wife, Audrey, to carry out his wishes once he was gone. In 1997, authorized estate editions were created from Geisel’s original drawings, paintings, and sculpture for private collection and museum exhibition.
In her introduction to the Secrets of the Deep, Audrey Geisel wrote, “It is with great pleasure that I share Ted, his art, his imagination, and his boundless creativity. I’m gratified to carry out Ted’s wishes and have these works revealed to the world.”
“The Cat Behind The Hat” will inspire all who attend the exhibit and will also benefit young people.
