This morning, in my Westbury office I walked in and headed right for the coffee. It’s been a long week and it’s only Wednesday! I had also bought some bagels for the staff yesterday and there were at least 10 left over, so I decided to have one too. A toasted bagel with butter and a cup of coffee with French vanilla creamer, what could be better? When suddenly, a Ramone’s tune came on the Ipod and I started to sing along…
“Nice way to start the morning,” Ellen Heydt, Project Manager said to me as she walked in the office. She started to sing too. In the corner of my eye, I could see Kristie Galvani, Senior VP, give a little twist to the turn too.
I sat in my office with my newly toasted buttered bagel and coffee and started to check the emails.
“Hilary, I know this may sound odd,” Ellen said to me as she entered my office. “But I just want to say thank you for keeping us all here during these difficult economic times. I keep hearing on the radio and reading in the newspapers how many people have been laid off and I just want you to know that I appreciate what you have done for all of us here at HJMT.”
I smiled. It was a true smile, not one of those superficial ones that you make at a cocktail reception. It made me feel good that she said that. Because I have been trying really hard to make sure that everyone stays employed and that everyone is happy.
So, do you feel appreciated?
