I went running with my friend the other day and we were talking about Facebook. She told me that she recently connected with an old friend that she hadn’t seen in years and that they went out to dinner as a result of the Facebook finding.
I mentioned to her that I feel like I know what’s going on with everyone in my life. “You don’t even have to make a call anymore,” I said. “Just look at someone’s wall and you will know exactly what he/she is up to.”
I know that my cousin’s daughter had a beautiful baby and my other cousin’s daughter in law had a baby. I know that my niece is finished with college and looking for a job and my other niece found a temporary job. I know that my neighbor is having a reunion party and that an old friend’s father passed away. I really feel like I know everything.
“Is that right?” she asked.
I thought about the way it was. We would call our friends and get up to date information via telephone or in-person connections. Today, kids growing up, won’t have that. They are learning to communicate in a different way.
What are your thoughts?
It’s funny because when I get together when someone I haven’t seen in awhile, we still say “What’s up?” However, we generally know what’s going on with the other person’s day-to-day life.
