Clap Your Hands Say Yeah at Blue Point Brewery

I love Long Island because there are so many interesting and exciting things to do here. Recently, we saw an ad that Blue Point Brewery in Blue Point, Long Island, was having a concert series.

Since we enjoy Indie music and wanted to see Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, we drove out to Blue Point, nearly an hour away from our new home in Merrick.

I had never been to the brewery. It was pretty cool there. When we arrived, we paid the $15 cover charge and immediately went inside the brewery to get a beer.

Since I never tried Blue Point, we got a free tasting of three different types of beer. I wanted a mild beer, my husband wanted a heavier beer, so we got six beer tastings in a 4 oz cup to try. I immediately loved Summer Breeze and ordered a 12 oz cup. My husband took the five 4 oz cups and added it together. He said it was delicious that way.

After that, we ordered a Margarita pizza from a food truck and waited for the band to come on.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah was fabulous.

Alec Ounsworth, lead singer of Clap Your Hands Say YeahI don’t know if the audience knew the band, but once they started, people were dancing and enjoying the music.

Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah, remind me of an earlier version of the Talking Heads. The lead singer, Alec Ounsworth, has a great voice and unique sound. He told the audience that Patti Smith was an influence to him and his singing. (Patti Smith was always a favorite of mine in the 80’s.)

Following Clap Your Hands Say Yeah was a bluegrass band, Stringdusters. I think most of the crowd was there for them and when they came on, the entire audience stood in the front and danced to the sounds of bluegrass music.

What a fun evening. I can’t wait to see what’s next at Blue Point Brewery!
