Book Review: David Fishof’s Rock Your Business

Who wouldn’t want to go on stage and perform with a rock star?

David Fishof, Founder and CEO of Rock N’ Roll Fantasy Camp and author of a new book entitled, Rock Your Business: What You and Your Company Can Learn from the Business of Rock and Roll, is a genius.

Fishof came up with the “big idea” to hold Rock n’ Roll Fantasy Camps for corporate executives and corporate retreats to get staff motivated by performing with a rock star and in turn, build a stronger corporate community.

In his new book, Rock Your Business, Fishof explains to the reader how to start a business and get it done the right way. The first section of the book helps the reader bring the idea to life. He tells the reader to make a prototype, then create a business plan and raise capital to make the idea a reality.  What’s interesting is that he uses his experience with music and relates it to any type of business.

He has a section on bartering, creating an elevator pitch and how to stand out amongst the competition.  He also talks about obstacles, and there are many when starting a business, and how to properly negotiate to get the best deal.  The last section tells the reader how he/she should always think of the next thing and keep on going.

This is a perfect book for someone starting out.  Fishof’s antidotes about the music industry made the book more compelling. I particularly liked his tips after each chapter, which he called “Greatest Hits.” It summed up the chapter with key points.  I found this useful especially since Fishof included such exciting stories, which sometimes took me off topic.

This 300-page book also included some interesting photos taken with Fishof and various artists.  The book is easy to read and offers a solid foundation for anyone starting out.
