Argentinian Wine Pairing Dinner at Brasserie Persil
My husband and I frequent Brasserie Persil quite often. We love that the food there is consistently flavorful. Lately, whenever we go, we see a flyer for a wine pairing dinner. Unfortunately, we usually can’t go but the other night, we went and really enjoyed ourselves.
Most people go to these wine pairing dinners with a group. It makes it a lot of fun but we went alone and enjoyed it just the same. Tim Wilkes of Domaine Bousquett was our Sommelier. He also talked about each wine as he poured them.
Domaine Bousquett is a brand of wines that are made in Mendoza, Argentina. Anna Bousquet and Labid Al Ameri are managing partners of this all organic winery.
The first course was a chopped mixed salad paired with Domain Bousquet Chardonnay 2015 (unoaked). It tasted like apple, pear with a slight taste of spice that added a little sparkle to the taste.
Next course was a pulled pork roll with Pico de Gallo. This delicious little treat was in a puffed pastry and had an exceptional taste. The Pico de Gallo added a little kick to it and with the Domaine Bousquet Malbec Reserve 2013, it was a combination of flavors that worked very well together.
The Malbec Reserve was 85% Malbec, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot and 5% Shiraz. It was well balanced and had the taste of raspberry, blackberry and chocolate. There was very little after taste and I enjoyed this very much.
The third course was a grilled ribeye in a Chimichurri sauce. I didn’t like this course as much as I liked the first two. Typically ribeye is a little bit of a fattier cut and I prefer a leaner cut like a filet. This course was paired with the Domain Bousquet Gaia Red Bled 2013, which I found simply delicious. The soft rounded tannins had notes of blackberries, spices, truffles that gives the wine an incredible taste. The wine is made up of 50% Malbec, 45% Syrah, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.
The final course of the evening was a Chocotorta with vanilla ice cream. This cake was outstanding. I could only take a couple of bites because it was so rich and filled with chocolate. This delicious dessert was paired with the Domaine Bousquet Malbec Reserve Dulce. If you like port, you will love this dessert wine! I actually enjoyed it more and it went perfect with the Chocotorta.
The evening was a great break from the weekday doldrums and my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening. If you like fine wine and great food, don’t miss the next event at Brasserie Persil.
