This morning, I had a networking breakfast meeting at the Harvest Diner in Westbury. I had arranged the meeting with someone I knew through Plaxo or LinkedIn. He was a vendor and wanted to discuss ways in which we can work more closely together.I got there at exactly 8:30 am. He never showed. I waited about 20 minutes, thumbing through my Blackberry looking to see if he canceled. He didn’t. So, I left.
I get to the office to gear up for my 10 am meeting and guess what? My new business appointment never showed. And, he confirmed with me on Friday! Is it going to be one of those days?
Whoops… it was me! I had the wrong time written down. Maybe the person who I was going to meet this morning wrote the wrong time too? Are we becoming too busy to confirm appointments?
My 11:30 am meeting was a little unusual. I met to discuss our new media package and instead of me pitching this person, she turned around the conversation and pitched me!
My next two appointments ran smoothly. I had a great lunch meeting at Wild Fig in Garden City with a former client. It was really good to get to know him better and find out that we have a lot in common. My 3 pm appointment came on time and I was excited about the possibility of networking with him.
Now it’s 6 pm, five meetings later plus several internal meetings and it’s time to go home. Oh no, it’s 6 pm! I have to pick up my son at 6:15 pm in Long Beach! How am I going to make it???
It is funny how when you are an entrepreneur or work for a small business your day is like a roller coaster.
