As I parked my car in a lot on 55th and Park, I put on my headphones and plugged in my Ipod. There’s something surreal about walking through Manhattan while listening to your favorite artist. When I was in college, I had a large walkman and carried my favorite CD with me. It’s nice that electronics have finally gotten smaller. The smaller the better!
When I arrived at my building at 575 Madison Avenue in NYC, I headed up the elevator to the 10th floor toward the new coffee maker, poured myself a cup of delicious French vanilla coffee, checked my mail and walked to my office. Kristie Galvani, Senior VP, was there today. So we talked about some new business and some old business and got our day underway.
At noon, I met my friend and client, Rob Levin, Publisher of the New York Enterprise Report, for lunch at Nobu 57. The food was fantastic. Whenever I eat there, I feel like every piece of sushi comes alive in my mouth! The flavors dance all the way down… The company was good too! I hadn’t seen Rob in a long time and it was great to touch base with him again.
After lunch I went back to the office and worked on some new business proposals, supervised staff, microblogged and talked with the Long Island and Rochester offices. At around 5ish, I left the office to go an EO (Entrepreneurs Organization) Board Meeting at Matthew Weiss’ office on Park Avenue and 29th Street. Instead of taking the car downtown, I took a bus and got to his office with plenty of time to spare. The meeting was great. Every time I go to an EO event or meeting, I get so motivated! The people are incredibly nice and welcoming and everyone is in the same boat, as small business owners.
But, when I left the meeting and walked outside to find that it was raining, I wondered why I didn’t move the car downtown? Now, I have to find bus, subway or taxi to take me back to 55th Street and Park Avenue! Oye!
I started to walk. It was raining pretty hard. I started to jog. The rain didn’t let up. I looked for a bus, but didn’t see one. I looked for the subway station and didn’t see one…. I turned my head and saw a cab. Okay, that’s it, I’m on it…. and I jumped in the taxi. Nearly $10 later, I was back at my car paying the $30 daily rate. (I could have moved the car and paid the same $40 bucks!)
But I wasn’t going to get upset. It really was a good day in the city and the best part, we closed our first client in Rochester. We are now the Agency of Record for the Penfield School District! Good going Lisa Gordon!
