An Experience with Uber
I went to a meeting in Atlanta. When the meeting was finished, we were supposed to have a van drive us back to the hotel. As everyone stayed around lingering, I felt as if I was ready to depart. So, I called an Uber.
The app told me it would take 3 minutes, then 1 minute to pick me up. I waited patiently in front of the Starbucks where the car was to pick me up.
Suddenly an Hyundai Elantra pulled up in front of me. My app told me that a Hyundai Elantra would be taking me to my destination. I opened the rear passenger door, noticed a backpack on the seat and saw the driver was waving me away. I closed the door. I didn’t realize what was going on.
A woman walked over to the car. She said to me, “What the “f” are you doing?”
“Oh, I’m sorry,” I told her, “I thought this was an Uber.”
The two in the front seat broke out into hysterics. They were laughing so hard, I thought they were going to roll out of the car. And, I started to laugh too, out of shear embarrassment.
The car pulled away and I was left standing there.
Thirty seconds later, another Hyundai Elantra drove over and waved to me.
“Are you an Uber?” I asked. I wasn’t making that mistake again!
“Yes, Hilary?” the driver said, “Get in…”
I told the driver what happened. Now the two of us where hysterical… We couldn’t stop laughing. We were laughing so hard that the driver had to pull over.
