I love golf. But because of my recent injuries, I haven’t been able to play as often as I would have liked.
I played in May with my husband and our two friends, Steve and Ron, and even came in second! That was the first time in almost two years that I played the game.
My problem was never the driving the ball or even the second shot; it was always the putting that put me over the top. I just can’t read the greens!
After that game, I was psyched. Now I could get back into the game and play weekly. I could wear all my cool Callaway and Nike outfits and fashionable golf shoes.
At the end of May, I broke my toe in the hot tub. (For those of you, who don’t know, my second toe got dislocated in the hot tub and I had to relocate it. It was severely fractured and the doc said it would take a long time to heal. I just didn’t think it would take 12 weeks!)
So, there I was with a broken toe, a golf game to play, a half marathon to run and spin class. I was so frustrated with my injuries. But the other day, nearly eight weeks after the injury, I decided I was going to get out there and play.
My husband, our two friends, Steve and Madeline, and I went to the Seaview Resort by Atlantic City to see if we can get in some rounds of golf.
When we got there, we were too tired to play, so we lounged by the pool instead. The next day, Steve, Brian and I went out on the Bay course. We had a 1 pm tee time. By that time, it was 100 degrees. We were told that there would be water throughout the course but there wasn’t any to be found. “Oh, the last time we filled up was at 9 am this morning,” one of the workers told me. “We’ll be getting someone to fill those buckets soon.”
Not soon enough! In the meantime, there was a woman driving around selling beverages. I couldn’t drink enough Gatorade!
Besides from being hot, I actually played well. I hit them pretty straight (for the most part). I linked my shots. Many times, I got up to the green on two or three and then four or five putted. So frustrating!
By the 9th hole, I told my golf partners, I was “cutting loose,” and went on my merry way with a 56 on the front nine of a difficult, narrow course in 100 degree weather. I felt pretty good about my game and myself.
When I got back to the hotel, I took off my soaking wet clothes and hopped into bed. I slept for nearly two hours in one of the deepest sleeps I have had in a long time and I dreamed about hitting them straight!
Golfing is the most frustrating sport EVER ha! But, maybe that’s just because I am SO bad 🙂
