Did you know that Memorial Day was first celebrated as a holiday in May 1868 to honor and remember the fallen soldiers from the Civil War?
On that day, flowers were placed on the soldier’s graves who were either confederate or in the union armies. New York was the first state to close all state offices. The south didn’t celebrate until after World War I. Today, Memorial Day is a Federal holiday.
As we remember all of those brave men and women who lost their lives for our country, I would like to thank all of the vets for all they do to serve our country and help protect each and every one of us.
