The other day I was in Long Island City for a meeting. My GPS kept sending me around in circles, so I decided to park the car and walk. How big can Long Island City (LIC) be anyway?
Well, LIC is big. It’s a lot bigger than I thought. My meeting was more than a mile away from the car. Thankfully, it was a beautiful day outside so I didn’t mind the walk. I only wished I wore sensible shoes!
When I got to the meeting, I was almost a half hour late. I felt terrible. Between traffic and the walk, it took me more than two hours to get there.
Following the meeting, I had a lunch meeting with my friend, Jeff Namnum. After we were finished, I reached into my coat to get the car parking ticket out. “I’m not quite sure where the car is parked,” I said.
I looked down at the ticket and there was no address. NO ADDRESS???? I looked at Jeff and showed him the ticket. “I have a feeling I know where it is, but I’m not 100% sure,” I said.
“Don’t worry,” Jeff said, “I’ll help you find the car.” And he did. He walked all around with me and we finally found a garage that looked familiar. I was grateful it wasn’t that far away. I was also so happy that Jeff took the stroll with me. What a complete gentleman!
I wonder what would have happened if I couldn’t find the lot!

LOL I am always afraid of that happening, so I either write it down, or turn around and recite out loud the intersection and what it’s near. I can remember sounds best (maybe it’s the musician in me), so I can recall later what I said and find my way back. As for the GPS, I have one on my phone, which is okay, but it “recalculates route” a lot and makes me nuts, so I can believe it sent you around in circles. Now, I have OnStar and I wish I had had the courage to press that button sooner and ask for directions, which are sent to the car by a nice person every time…husband got it for me and I was afraid to use it! I am admittedly a very low tech person. I have a full-size receiver and curly cord that plugs into my cell phone. And I am not kidding. Glad you found your car! That would be incredibly awful if you hadn’t!
Great comment! That’s a good way to remember! Thanks for sharing…
That was so nice of Jeff. What a gentleman 🙂
