I had to go to NYC for a cortisone shot in my knee. It’s been bothering me a lot lately, and the gel shots didn’t work. I hoped the cortisone would kick off the effects of the gel shots and start working.
My daughter asked if I could stay with Daisy, her Australian Cattle Dog. Daisy is three, and she’s mellowed out from the beginning. She was so rambunctious at first.
Noon Walk
I took her for a leisurely walk at noon. She led me through the streets of Manhattan. She knew exactly where she wanted to go, and I was pulled along.
Suddenly, I notice a cupcake store. I wondered if that was where she wanted to go. She sniffed along the perimeter of the store. I’ve never seen her so crazy about the smell (Although secretly, I didn’t blame her. I could have hung out in that area longer too.).
Boy, did she want to go inside! But I didn’t let her. I kept hearing her parents saying, “No Daisy, No!”
Then next door was a dog store with toys and chews. The door was open and she pulled me inside that store.
I couldn’t even resist not going in; she pulled me so hard. I never saw her that excited. She was more excited than sniffing the cupcake store.
As a Good Grandma Should
Of course, I had to buy her something. I ended up buying her a pull toy and a chew. Fifty dollars later, we were out the door and walking back to my daughter and son-in-law’s apartment. (When the cashier told me it was $50, I almost had a mini heart attack! I couldn’t believe how expensive it was.)
When we got back to my daughter and son-in-law’s apartment, I gave her the chew. In two seconds it was gone. The toy was demolished soon thereafter. But, a dog like Daisy deserved it.
P.S. She is a rescue dog from Lucky Dog Refuge Shelter in Connecticut.
