I don’t see my kids often because they are adults now and have their own lives, but when I do, my heart is filled with joy.
Surprise Visit
A couple of weeks ago during the Passover/Easter holidays, I was getting ready to go to work and finish off the week. I had to make a pit stop and since the main bathroom was being used, I entered my son’s room to use his bathroom. Normally, it’s just my husband and me living in the house that we bought more than seven years ago. But, I saw something sticking out of my son’s bed. It looked like someone was sleeping in his bed.
I let out a scream. My son woke up and laughed. “Oh my God,” I said, “I didn’t know you were coming home!” My son lives in Nashville, Tennessee. We both laughed. I was so happy to see him!
Filled with Love
Later that morning, my daughter, son-in-law, and Daisy, their dog, came to the house. They rented a car for the weekend and drove to Long Island from NYC. One more time, my heart was filled with love. I hadn’t seen them since Christmas. They both have busy lives and travel a lot for work.
That Night
The night they all arrived, we went to my sister-in-law’s home for a beautiful extended family dinner. It was lovely to see my nieces and nephews. Everyone looked great and had big smiles on their faces.
The Weekend
Personally, I didn’t care what we did during that weekend, as long as we were together. It’s just amazing how when the children are young and you see them all the time, you take advantage of the time. You don’t realize that it will end soon and they will be off doing their own thing. As much as you want them to stick around, you have to let them go. So, having this time together over that weekend, meant so much to me.
We ended up taking Daisy to the dog park in Wantagh Park. We went thrifting one day in West Hempstead. And, we took a long walk through the trails at Massapequa Preserve. Each day, was better than the next.
And Then it Was Over…
The weekend went fast, as it always does. And it was time for the kids to go their separate ways. As my daughter, son-in-law, and Daisy left, my heart started to melt. Then, it was my son’s turn to go to the airport. It melted yet again. Although I feel a tinge of sadness, I can’t wait for the next time to see them.
Until that time comes, I am cherishing the memories we made. Those will be with me forever. Have you had a weekend like this? What did you do? Let me know in the comments below.
