Located right on the border of Huntington Station and Dix Hills, Long Island, is a small place off Jericho Turnpike called Floatopia.
They have a series of rooms that you can rent for an hour including an infrared sauna room, a float room, and a salt room.
Gift Certificate
Last year for my birthday, my friends gave me a gift certificate. For me, it was a little out of the way, deep in the heart of Huntington Station. But, it was well worth it.
The gift certificate included all three areas for an hour each. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and recently purchased an infrared treatment and float, which I recently did on a cold Sunday afternoon in December.
Infrared Treatment
When you go into an infrared sauna, you get an invigorating sweat that leaves you refreshed and rejuvenated. It’s also supposed to support your sleep, but for me, nothing really works.
However, I did feel relaxed. Very relaxed.
The infrared sauna is a little different than a traditional sauna. Traditional saunas use steam or dry heat to warm a room. Infrared saunas use infrared heaters to warm your body, which induces a deep and relaxing sweat.
Float Rooms
Floatopia has a few float rooms. You enter the room and there is a private dressing area and shower. When you open the door to the float area, you are in a little room by yourself. Like the Dead Sea, when you lie down, you float.
Each room has various lights with different colors. If you want to float in complete darkness, you can and it is recommended for the full effect.
While in the room, I tried both – with the different colored lights and then in complete darkness. At first, I thought I would feel scared, but it was actually very relaxing. I almost entered a state of pure relaxation. I could think of nothing but floating.
It felt wonderful.
Salt Room
When I went back just the other day, I did not book the salt room. I thoroughly enjoyed it when I went the first time. The smell of salt as I relaxed on an infinity chair made my nose feel like each breath was better than the next. Normally, I have a lot of congestion but in the salt room, all of my congestion dissipated.

As I was leaving, the owner asked if I wanted to come back for half price. I loved the float room so much that I bought a future visit. That says a lot since it’s a little further away from my home than I would have liked.
