Restaurant week is always so much fun. During the middle of November, many of the restaurants had a restaurant week menu, including Red Salt Room by David Burke.
Red Salt Room is located at the Garden City Hotel in Garden City, Long Island. This was my first time there.
The Decor
The restaurant had large pieces of red salt located throughout and around the restaurant. There was even a red salt display on every table. It was tastefully decorated.
The chairs were particularly comfortable. You could spend hours sitting and talking with your party in the high back cushioned chairs.
Prix Fix Menu
I ordered roasted branzino from the Prix Fix Menu. The fish appeared on the regular menu for $38. Here it was $42 which also included an appetizer and dessert.
In addition to the Branzino, there was a choice of chicken, short ribs, and a vegetarian dish.
I started with Butternut Squash soup which was incredibly tasty. My husband ordered the hanging bacon. The waiter snipped a small piece off and threw it in my squash soup. It was yummy delicious. (Ha… the soup tasted better with a little bacon in it!)
Main Course
The Branzino was delicious. However, the sauce was extremely spicy. If it weren’t so spicy the dish would have been perfect.
My son had short ribs. Although it was flavorful, the short ribs were overcooked and well done.
Dessert
They had two choices on the menu. You can either order the pumpkin creme brulee or the pecan tart. I ordered the tart and had a little taste. My son ordered the creme brulee. It wasn’t very good. But, the tart was excellent. My son ended up eating my tart and with a little taste of it, I walked away happy.
Would I recommend it?
It’s a great place for a special occasion or if you’re taking a new client out to eat. Although there were some problems with the meal, overall, I enjoyed it. It was on the pricey side, but if you want to impress, this may be a good place to do it.
