I was never a big sports fan. I never even watched a game until I started watching games with my 13-year-old son.
A couple of years ago, we started going to Islander’s games, Ranger’s games, Knicks games, and more. Every time we went, we always had a great time. So, for the holidays, my husband and I decided to buy a couple of sporting event tickets.
Last night, we attended the Syracuse vs. St. John’s Big East basketball game at Madison Square Garden. After the snowstorm, the roads weren’t bad and we drove in from Long Island. (It was actually a pleasure driving in. There was very little traffic.)
Once we were seated, the national anthem was sung and the game started. During the first few moments, people were standing. I shouted, “Please sit down!” But no one did. I screamed again, “Sit Down!” And still everyone stood. A man in a red t-shirt, a St. John’s fan, told me that it is customary to stand up until Syracuse makes their first shot. (Hmmm… You really do learn something new every day!)
In the beginning, St. John’s lead Syracuse with a score of 17 to 9. St. John’s looked good. They were playing together and I really thought they may win but Syracuse came back strong. In the end, the score was 76 to 59, with Syracuse taking charge. Although the Garden is St. John’s territory, practically everyone wore orange and chanted, “go orange go.”
By the way, Syracuse is 17/0 and 4/0 in the Big East. Impressive, huh? It was a fun game!
