I haven’t slept a full night in years. And, I know I’m not alone. My friends and family tell me the same thing. Once I wake up, I oftentimes can’t fall back asleep. I wake up thinking about something that is bothering me and I can’t get those thoughts out of my head. So, I reach over to my phone or computer, try to surf the Internet to try to get rid of those thoughts.
Instead, Courtney E. Ackerman, author of Midnight Meditations – Calm your thoughts, still your body, and return to sleep, says, you can return to sleep easily by meditating.
Midnight Meditations
In the book, Midnight Meditations, Ackerman offers 150 meditations to calm your mind in the middle of the night. The book includes five different chapters, each one concentrates on something different.
Chapter by chapter
In chapter one, you have a series of breath meditations and there is 47 pages of specific breathing exercises.
Chapter two focuses on body meditations and focusing on parts of your body in order to meditate.
This is followed by chapter 3 that focuses on thought meditations, which includes “learn to surrender,” “note your thoughts,” and “follow a belief.”
Chapter 4 is all about emotion meditations and trying to tune in to those emotions. This is followed with chapter 5 focusing on visual meditations.
Specifically, when you wake up in the middle of the night, open up the book and start reading one of the meditations. With 150 meditations, you’re likely not to land on the same one twice. Once you read what Ackerman wrote, close your eyes and focus on it.
