Jeremie Dezwirek, a young UC Berkeley graduate, reached out to me on Instagram. He was a swimmer for Cal and a former triathlete. He wanted to know if I would be interested in helping him spread the word about his movement to get people to vaccinate against the COVID-19 virus.

I asked Jeremie what XIX was. He told me that it is Roman numerals that stand for 19 for COVID-19. When you get vaccinated, Jeremie told me, the numerals turn green making a green “V”.
Why this movement?
I asked Jeremie why he was doing this. He told me that he “lost his grandpa to COVID and was unable to see him in the hospital. I had my last moments with him over webcam.”
He went on to say that “we want to promote vaccination and debunk the misinformation being spread. We sell our apparel to cover costs but donate 10% of the proceeds to the WHO COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.
Why I wanted to help
I know way too many people who don’t want to get the vaccine out of fear. There are so many theories that are everywhere but the bottom line is, you can get very sick or die from COVID-19. Understanding the fear, I got the Moderna vaccine and walked away fine. I want my life back. It’s just not fun to fear another human being! I want to hug again and love again. If we all get vaccinated, perhaps we can rid this virus forever!
