On Getting a Haircut with a New Haircutter!

I have been going to Edelma Torres at the Red Door Salon for years now. She is an amazing colorist/hair cutter! She’s also an incredible person. That’s why I keep going back. But I haven’t gone back in a long time. I’ve just been too busy!

I decided to go to Maximus Hair Salon in Westbury today. Maximus has their main branch in Merrick on Merrick Road and opened a satellite shop in the Source Mall. The Source Mall is only 7 minutes from my office and I decided to go during lunch.

I walked in and was greeted by a tall man with a mohawk. He handed me a robe and told me to sit on the couch and wait for Jeanine. As I sat there waiting, I checked my blackberry. Everything seemed to be going well, so I waited. Moments later, a young woman came up to me and told me she was going to wash and blow dry my hair.

That’s strange, I thought. Why would she do that?

As she was blow drying my hair, I asked her the question. “Because it’s much better for your hair,” she said. “And it gives you a cleaner cut.”

Now I’ve heard everything! Are they kidding me? But I didn’t say anything. I let them do it. After she was finished, she brought me over to Jeanine. As Jeanine was cutting my hair, she got a phone call. “Hello, OMG! That’s amazing!” she said.

“My sister-in-law is having a girl and I’m making her the shower,” she said to me. She continued to cut and as her colleagues walked by, she screamed out, “she’s having a girl!” No one seemed to care. But she was very excited.

She seemed to pay more attention to the thought of the baby girl, then to my hair and within minutes, she was finished. Did she cut anything off? I looked on the floor and saw very little hair clippings.

“Thank you very much,” she said and sent me to the front to pay.

Sixty bucks later, I thought about giving her a tip, and then I went to give her a tip. She was no where to be found and neither was the washer…. Where did they go? I guess they ran to talk about the new baby girl….

I went back to my office, looked at the mirror and thought, she didn’t do anything and now I’m out $60 bucks!
