Do you need a smart home?
The future is here right now and I think anyone not having any component of a smart home may be missing out. I’ve been talking about smart homes for the last few years and with the fact that more than 8 million Americans have an Amazon Echo in their home proves just that.
My husband and I have the Amazon Echo, Alexa, in our kitchen, den and bedroom. She is our personal assistant, keeping shopping lists, providing us with the current weather, giving us a news updates, and waking us up in the morning. She even can order supplies and she can play our favorite Sirius XM station.
Alexa also connects with the Philips Hue light bulb. We have Philips in our bedroom and in our den. We tell Alexa to turn on and off the lights in the bedroom. In our den, we use the colored lights to illuminate our television and set a mood in the room.
When we watch 12 Monkeys, the hue turns the lights to different colors which, when we are watching a “gory” scene, makes it all that much more intense!
We also have the Nest that controls the temperature in our home set in two different zones. What I love about this is we can set everything from our iPhone or Android device! So, in the middle of the night, when I wake up sweating, I can roll over, grab my phone and turn the air conditioner to a cooler setting. It’s that simple!
One day soon, I would love to see us buy smart appliances like a smart refrigerator that tells me when I’m low on certain groceries or a smart washer/dryer that tells me when my clothes are ready to come out.
I’m also interested in the smart door bell that tells me who is at my front door. (That’s coming soon!)
What I love about having a semi-smart home is it makes things so much more convenient and it’s easy to use. So, if anyone asks me if he/she should invest in a smart home, I say, at the very least, invest in an Amazon Echo. It’s just so nice to have that personal assistant!
