Have you noticed that everything seems to be getting so expensive?
Besides paying more than a hundred dollars in gas each week, I feel that every time I go to the supermarket, the food gets more and more expensive! I don’t notice it so much on the individual items. I notice it when I go to check out the food at the register and it rings up almost double what it was a year ago!
In a recent issue of the Wall Street Journal, Patrick Barta writes an article, “Higher Food Prices May Be Here To Stay.” Mr. Barta explains the reason for the increase is that farmer’s all over the world are paying more for fuel, fertilizer, and other chemicals. In 2006 and 2007, farmers bought their supplies in bulk and were able to keep the food prices down. Today, they don’t have that luxury. According to the article, economists say that farmer’s are “terrified” of higher prices and this will effect both price and production going forward.
I guess it’s a good thing that I don’t go food shopping anymore…
